Part app, part game, Dr. Seuss Band lets children’s creativity flow, while providing real gaming challenges. Everything about this new Oceanhouse Media offering is filled with Seussical charm.
The app invites kids to mix and match parts from several horns that might that sound like traditional instruments, but look like they were pulled straight from the pages of Dr. Seuss’ most fanciful tales.
Kids then enter Free Play mode, where a three-octave colorful keyboard awaits young composers. Here, children are free to experiment with the 10 included sound effects and their own imagination. The only thing lacking is a way to record and save.
When the edutainment aspect gets old, the game mode packs lots of age-appropriate musical fun. Dr. Seuss Band comes with 10 songs from various book’s soundtracks, many I had never heard, but all of them whimsically appropriate.
There are three difficulty levels: Easy is suitable for preschool; medium for early grade schoolers; hard challenges older kids (and parents). It’s essentially a music rhythm game like ROCK BAND Reloaded or the Tapulous series. There are achievements and unlockables along with Game Center integration.
Additional songs are available for in-app purchase, but there is ample entertainment included to keep kids engaged for many hours. Dr. Seuss Band is charming and clever; it inspires creativity and captivates kids. The doctor himself would surely approve. Check out the gameplay trailer below:
