Find local live music with MTV Live & Local, an app that uses GPS technology and a big database of local venues and music to provide instant information about where to go to see a show. The app keeps track of the music and artists you like by scanning your iTunes Library, and gives you recommendations for shows you might like or when your favorite artist comes to town.
Local shows are saved on a calendar so you can quickly find out what’s happening tonight, tomorrow, this weekend or whenever, so you’re always ready to plan. MTV Live & Local also lets you connect with friends who use the app, so you can see who is at what show and potentially go join them. You also get detailed information about venues and artists within the app, so you have everything you need to plan an evening.
Stampt – Loyalty Cards (iPhone, iPad) Free
It’s all about loyalty cards with Stampt – and not the kind you pick up at Best Buy or Rite Aid and carry around with you in a keychain-style app, but the punch-style frequency card variety. Rather than carry around lots of little cards in your wallet for local establishments, getting each punched every time you buy something to try to earn that “buy 10 get one free” reward, Stampt tracks down business that have cards wherever you are, and saves them in your iOS device.
The app works by using your device’s GPS capabilities to figure out what nearby establishments offer frequency deals and other rewards, then shows them to you on a Google map. It gives you the deals you might be able to redeem, and if multiple visits are necessary, the app keeps track and then notifies you when you qualify. Currently the app is limited to establishments in San Francisco, Chicago, Cincinnati and New York, but more are being added all the time.
Bug Heroes Quest (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
The original Bug Heroes was a sort of mix of role-playing elements, two-stick shooter action and tower defense strategy that worked really well on the iPhone. It wore all its hats really well, but it didn’t specialize in any single kind of gameplay. Bug Heroes Quest, on the other hand, goes for a story-based campaign based on the original Bug Heroes, spinning off to create big action-RPG experience.
There are 60 missions in Bug Heroes Quest, and as you progress through its storyline, you’ll advance your character as you complete levels and defeat enemies, unlocking new abilities and equipment. The game maintains the Bug Heroes aesthetic and feels a lot like the original, but challenges players to take it on in a different way. It also has an Arena mode, in which you can take on enemies to see how you rank on Bug Heroes Quest’s Game Center leaderboards.
Kickin Momma (iPhone, iPad) $0.99
An arcade physics puzzler in the vein of Angry Birds and its ilk, Kickin Momma is one of those absurdly addictive games you’ll find eating up your spare time. The goal of each level is to punt little blue guys into a field of floating diamonds, with the goal of collecting several red gems by knocking them to the bottom of the screen. Trouble is, each child will bounce wildly after connecting with the gems or anything else, dropping them into a Pachinko-like field of objects to bounce off of. The more of those objects you can take out in one shot, the more points you receive for each kick.
Collecting gems is the goal to advance, but figuring out the best places to kick and bounce your little blue guys is the key to the game. There are also power-ups scattered throughout the game’s 36 levels, and achievements and leaderboards provided by Game Center.
