Unwind this weekend with three brand new, free games to take you through the lazy almost-summer afternoons of your time off. You’ll want to take a look at these — Spirits, normally $4.99, is marked down for an extremely limited time to absolutely nothing. So is Rat on a Skateboard, a game where you get to be a rat, riding a skateboard. And finally, there’s MotoTrialz, a motocross game where stunts are king. Check them out and enjoy your weekend.
Spirits (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $4.99)
Puzzle game Spirits is a lot like the classic Lemmings. Your goal is to get your spirits to a certain goal in each level, and in order to get them on the correct path and past any obstacles, you have to use their abilities. In Spirits, those abilities include manipulating the wind, constructing bridges and digging tunnels to get as many of your spirits to the end of the level as possible.
You get 40 levels in Spirits, which was recently updated to be more accessible to new players. It also packs support for Game Center, which dishes out achievements and lets players see how their ranked on the game’s worldwide leaderboards.
Rat on a Skateboard (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
Extremely obvious names aside, Rat on a Skateboard is a pretty fun 2D skateboarding game in which your goal in each level is to do tricks and avoid hazards to finish with a high score. You’ll do that by performing stunts by tapping, which causes you to jump and do kick flips while in the air, as well as hitting grinding rails and avoiding objects that will kill you or detract from our score.
Rat on a Skateboard sports a challenge mode, in which you’ll play through individual courses in order, and two endless mode levels in which you’ll play until you lose to see how high your score can get. There are more than 30 levels in the challenge mode, and support for Game Center will let you see how you rank against other players.
MotoTrialz (iPhone, iPad) Free (was $0.99)
It’s all about physics in MotoTrialz (formerly iTrials), a game in which you’ll use either touch or tilt controls to ride a motocross bike through a series of obstacle-laden courses. You’ll execute loops, wheelies and jumps as you blast through the obstacles in hopes of pulling down the fastest times you can as you carefully navigate through all that debris.
There are 27 levels in MotoTrialz to keep you working on improving your motocross skills, as well as acheivements and rewards created by developer Phil Haylor. MotoTrialz also supports leaderboards through OpenFeint, allowing you to compare your best times to those of friends and opponents around the world.
