Only you can squash the Buganoids

Buganoids is considered a retro game like the ones played back in the 1980s. Back then, the graphics were poor, but we survived because we got to shoot at things, and blow them up occasionally. Some that come to mind are PacMan, Asteroids, Millipede and, my favorite, Galaga.

Buganoids looks like it could be from that era. It’s a simple premise of trying to shoot aliens that are trying to eat you. Or at least that’s what it appears. The planet looks like a giant bowling ball, with three holes from which the creatures venture out. There are three levels to choose from: “normal,” which has three caves; “difficult,” which has four; and “insane,” which has five caves or holes. It’s a small planet, and you move around the outside of the planet shooting at anything that moves. You can also shoot a duck that flies around you and is also shooting at you. It’s best to position yourself across from the creatures for the best shooting angles. Occasionally, you can pick up other weapons to use, including a laser gun, missile and what appears to be a flame-thrower. If you move around quickly enough, you won’t get eaten, which is the best part of the game. I love how they swarm around you like zombies.

It features eight unique planets, classic arcade controls and OpenFeint leader boards. Some might like this kind of entertainment because of its throwback images, but I became bored pretty quickly.
