I’ll admit, I’m already a huge fan of Rhapsody. So access to on my iPod Touch without needing to be connected to the Internet? No need to break a sweat trying to convince me of this one—I’m in. Upon entering the world of Rhapsody via the Rhapsody iPhone app, you can search by artists, albums, and tracks, or browse the music guide with pre-set categories such as “Genres,” “New This Week,” and “Charts.” When you find what you like, you can save it to your personalized playlist. If you simply want to backtrack to what you listened to a few songs ago, you can do so easily, as it’s all being tracked in your queue.
One of the features that makes Rhapsody so special is the list of options you come across when you search for an artist. You can listen to all albums, top tracks, an artist sampler, and related artists (my very favorite part). You can also listen by genre (meaning Rhapsody identifies the genres an artist falls into and then streams similar bands), and lastly, you can play artist radio, which streams a whole radio station of bands you might like based on the band Rhapsody knows you do like.
The only thing that confused me about Rhapsody on the iPod is whether you needed to be a member to continue to use the service. I signed up for a seven-day free trial membership, but what happens when those seven days are over? Do I have to sign up for the online version in order to get Rhapsody on my iPhone or iPod Touch? For now, I’ll just enjoy the next seven days of musical bliss.
