Building Build is as unoriginal as its name and as dull as the legal disclaimer on its application description.
Blocks slide back and forth in this iPhone game, as you attempt to build a skyscraper as tall as you can. The higher the tower, the more points you get.
Tap the screen to stop the moving blocks, though only the ones that align directly with the floors below will remain. As the building gets bigger, the game speeds up (as does its trashy techno soundtrack) and the number of blocks you’re given shrinks until there’s only a single cube racing side to side.
Building Build is a game of split-second reactions and frustrating eye-finger coordination, complete with three difficultly levels that change nothing but the background, music and the speed of the blocks.
But the app failed to keep my focus like other simplistic games (and I’m easily addicted). A perfect score is far from unreachable and the challenge of outdoing yourself becomes instantly obsolete. Plus, you hardly get to see the fruits of your labor. Beat your high score and a window pops up to tell you so fast that you’re robbed a final glance at your steel structure.
Not that it would be very impressive. The app’s design may remind you of those first iPhone apps released when everything was free, but this is disappointing since it was released in September 2009. Building Build is a waste of 99 cents and the two minutes it’ll take you to realize you’ve just been swindled.
