PrinterShare requires work on the front end

PrinterShare is more of a process than one would hope.

PrinterShare is an app to print directly from your iPhone. The nice bit about the app is that it doesn’t require a printer from a specific company, such as HP or Lexmark, to work.

The first step is to download the PrinterShare software onto the computer physically connected to the printer. That isn’t the end of the world, but if you’re already printing remotely from a laptop that didn’t require so much effort, it really crushes ease-of-use expectations.

So now the software has downloaded to your iPhone and to your computer, you’re ready? No.

The next step is to create a PrinterShare account which added another layer of setup to get your iPhone to find the printer you’ve already spent all this time setting up.

Once you can print? Well, it’s a great convenience – as long as I want to print from the one printer that has been set up. You can print photos, contact info or Web pages.

But if you have two printers, say one at work and one at home, well, please schedule accordingly.
