I’m a person who consistently watches the Food Network, and even for me, Macy’s Keeps America Cooking is not that interesting or impressive.
This app is a 12-episode video podcast based on the Macy’s Keeps America Cooking contest that started earlier this year. It makes it easier to keep up with the contest, its winners and food recipes. But really, this cooking app is no different from watching an episode of someone cooking on television.
In fact, the video podcasts, each about four to five minutes long, feature the Food Network’s Tyler Florence. I do not shop at Macy’s, but the shopping spree section where Florence takes contestants to a Macy’s store to buy cooking equipment, like knives and other appliances, caught my eye.
Not only can you view podcasts, but you can also view videos from users and winners of the cooking contest. One video follows a chef as he cooks a meal at home. The two-minute video is clear and audible, just like the podcasts. Captions at the bottom of the video include the ingredients used, which is helpful.
The app is easy to navigate and each podcast loads within a few seconds. Unfortunately, you can’t watch too long because the app will drain your battery.
If you like cooking shows, there is some appeal to Macy’s Keeps America Cooking. But you won’t learn too much if you already love to watch cooking shows.
