Most cellular phones now include video cameras, but none will give you the cool effects you get with the 8MM Vintage Camera iPhone app ($1.99).
We have all seen our parents and grandparents vintage home videos with the cloudy view and cracking sound. This app lets you recreate that retro feel.
Users can shoot video using different lens frames, including a fringed rectangular frame and a fuzzy rounded frame. Effects include: “1920,” “XPro,” “Siena,” “Sakura” and “70s,” so you have the option to chose your era.
My personal favorite is the ’70s effect, which is so reminiscent of the decade that you half expect some folks with bell-bottoms and Afros to walk across the screen.
The app also allows you to add jittery frame jumps with a more authentic feel. Once you have completed your shoot, the video clip can be stored under a feature called “my reels,” emailed, or uploaded to the Internet.
The only drawback is that the other editing options are limited. It would be nice if there was a way to slice and splice film clips in-app. Nevertheless, this app is great for people are interested in vintage film, or who want something a bit more fun than the basic cell phone video.
